Religious Education

Mission: To partner with families in teaching our children prayers, traditions, and Scripture that will enable them to become active and involved Catholic Christians.

PRESCHOOL Sunday 9:00am (Sept-May)

The Preschool Religious Education program is for children who are 3,4, and 5 years old by September 30, 2003.  It is designed to help children develop an awareness of the presence of God in themselves, their families and the world around them.

ELEMENTARY  Sunday 10:15am or Wednesday 7:00pm (Sept-May)

Through study of our rich traditions, powerful prayers and Holy Scripture, children learn what and why Catholic Christians believe as we do.

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION: Through workshops, classes and retreats, parents and children come to a better understanding of the value and joy of each sacrament. Parents are the primary teachers of their children.  The parish and school provide resources, encouragement and guidance to assist parents in this important task.

Baptism: The first sacrament of initiantion into the Catholic faith and usually occurs as soon after birth as possible.  Parents make arrangements with a deacon for instruction.

Confirmation: The second sacrament of intiation into the Catholic faith is Confirmation.  Through this sacrament the person is strengthened by the Holy Spirit, with the anointing by the bishop.  This year preparation will be done at the third grade level with preparation for First Eucharist.

First Eucharist:  The final sacrament of initiation is Eucharist.  Upon receiving Eucharist, the person is fully initiated into the Catholic faith.  Children usually receive Eucharist for the first time right after being confirmed.  Children will prepare for First Eucharist and Confirmation in third grade.

First Reconciliation:  Children in the second grade will prepare for celebrating the sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time.

MIDDLE SCHOOL  Wednesday 7:00pm (Oct-May)

Grades 6-8 gather for fun, catechesis, and prayer.  Social outings and retreats are a big part of middle school activities.  Our middle school ministry strives to help young people form friendships with other Catholics, develop a prayer life, and presonalize their walk with Christ.

HIGH SCHOOL Sunday 7:00pm (Oct-May)

Grades 9-12 meet for prayer, catechesis, and socializing.  There are opportunities for service, retreats, and social outings.  This ministry works to deepen our teens' understanding and practice of the Catholic faith and to encourage them to act on that faith in the Church and the world.
